Landrias
An all-girl team in Livingston, with three 6th-grade and one 8th-grades girls, trained along side with team Landroids. Two of the Landrias members are brand new, never touched LEGO before; the other two had only worked with RCX and Robolab last year.

Landrias has been working on their “Got Bike” project to promote safe biking to school and turn Livingston into a biking community. The have conducted survey, interviewed town officials and learned various traffic calming concepts that have been successfully implemented in the neighborhood community. The team has worked closely with officials in Livingston and Montclair during their research project. This all-girls team of 6th and 8th graders has learned many traffic calming and safe biking strategies, and was proposing an interactive Smart Biking town-wide website to plot out the best bike route by inputting the location and in-town designations, tracking peak biker flow to help the police to allocate their resources, and monitor the carbon credit saved by students from each school.
The team has recently received the Champion’s Award at the Montclair Qualifier on 12/4/09, plus earning 2nd place in Robot Performance with a score of 355 out of 400 points. Their robot has a simple design but uses complex ultrasonic wall alignment for navigation.
At the NJ State tournament, the Landrias was an inspiration to many girls who would came by to visit their pit. The Landrias earned 275 points at the State tournament and ranked #16 in the robot performance.
These girls love to hang out together, developing their own presentation style, robot design and programming.
A new 6th grade member has joined for the 2010 “Body Forward” season, looks like there will be more snacking and chatting during the team meetings.
